How We Review Video Chat Platforms
Our review method: what we check, what counts as confirmed, what we mark as unconfirmed, and the difference between a fact and our opinion.
What we evaluate
- How easily you can start a conversation
- What matching controls exist, and which are free
- The video experience and whether text runs alongside it
- Privacy — what the service asks of you before you can use it
- Moderation and whether behaviour has consequences
- Mobile usability and account friction
- Conversation style — what the design encourages
- Value for the audience the product is actually for
Three kinds of statement
We keep these separate on every page, because collapsing them is how review sites mislead people:
- Verified platform facts. Read from a primary source, with the source and date cited.
- Not confirmed. We could not verify it. It means unverified, not absent — an important difference we state on every table.
- Editorial interpretation. Our reading of what a product is for and who should use it. Argue with this freely.
What "not confirmed" really means
Several services in this category run client-rendered sites that return nothing readable to an automated fetch. Thundr is one; Chatroulette we could not reach at all. When that happens we have two options: mark the gap, or fill it from recollection and hope. We mark it.
It makes our tables look less complete than competitors'. It also makes them true.
What we do not do
- No star ratings, no scores, no "9.2/10". We have no defensible rating data, so we publish none.
- No claimed hands-on testing we did not do. Where our knowledge is from published sources, we say so and link them.
- No fabricated signals. No online counts, no "users waiting", no invented testimonials, no countdowns.
- No automatic wins for our own product. We recommend it, we disclose it, and we still name what others do better.
Keeping it current
Each brand record carries the date its features were last checked, and each review shows when it was updated. A date change on its own is not an update — if only the date moved, nothing was re-verified, and we do not pretend otherwise.
